Periodontology is a scientific discipline and a dental speciality which deals with a specialized system consisting of hard and soft tissues surrounding the teeth, diagnosis of the diseases in this system, treatment and maintenance of health after the treatment in order to ensure the health of the teeth in the jaw.
The purpose of Periodontology today is to increase life quality by contributing to the dental health with the treatment of inflammatory disease of the gums, gingival enlargement, and gingival recession, and also ensuring the function and esthetic of teeth by regenerative and pink esthetic procedures and dental implants.
Periodontal disease occurs when teeth and all of the tissues surrounding them are influenced. Swollen, red, bleeding gums, gums that feel tender when touched, bad breath, new spaces developing between the teeth and pus between the teeth and gums are the symptoms of periodontal disease. When this serious infection is not treated, in addition to tooth loss, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, development of respiratory diseases and the risk of preterm birth or low birth weight infants can be seen according to researches.
Early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of periodontal diseases. The fields of Periodontology Department are to regenerate the lost tissue due to periodontal disease and to create a functional, esthetic and permanent denture and a periodontal environment to be cleaned easily.
